Welcome to the Jaffery Academy Mombasa Junior School
Jaffery Academy Junior School is a ‘buzz of activity’ where learners come to navigate the formal, informal and hidden curriculum maze. In our quest to quench the education thirst, meaningfully, we have embraced a blended curriculum of Cornerstones and iPrimary which enables us to effectively cover and assess all the stipulated learning goals of the British National Curriculum.
Cornerstones is intentionally designed to equip and prepare learners for life in the 21st century through the vast use of pedagogical styles and varied resources that excite, motivate and challenge learners to succeed.
The iPrimary allows the learners an opportunity to take responsibility for their learning and keep track of their progress through a variety of formative and achievement assessments.
To enhance enquiry and arouse curiosity in our learners we scaffold the learning through a series of guided research on themes through the use of Education City enable our learners to interact, communicate and engage with learning resources in an online setting.

The Learning Journey
Engage
First hand experiences are the best way to enrich learning and make it come alive. In the Engage stage we trigger learners’ curiosity through provision of memorable experiences like educational school trips, motivational talks by guest speakers and interactive experiences.
Develop
We facilitate the acquisition of knowledge to provide in-depth understanding and learning of new skills. Our school provides creative opportunities for applying the skills through structured classroom and outdoor activities.
Innovate
Creative thinking skills are nurtured through provision of imaginative and thought provoking scenarios. This enables children to acquire individual and peer assessment skills. It is amazing to watch our children grow into independent thinkers and develop problem solving techniques.
Express
We spark a sense of personal pride in achievement, through celebrating our children’s successes. Opportunities are provided for learners to share their accomplishments, by granting them conducive presentation forums. Such forums ‘empower our children and build their confidence’.

Numeracy
We follow the British National Curriculum for Maths, placing emphasis on core skills to ensure that there is a firm understanding of mathematical skills from an early age.
Mathematics is important in everyday life. It is integral to all aspects of life and with this in mind we endeavour to ensure that children develop a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards mathematics that will stay with them.
At Key Stage 1 and 2, pupils build on their learning from the Foundation Phase and further develop their mathematical skills, knowledge and understanding through learning about and using ‘number’, ‘measures and money’, ‘shape, position and movement’ and ‘handling data’.
Teachers include a balance of opportunities to promote enjoyment of learning through practical activity, exploration and discussion.
In mathematics our aim is to develop ability to think clearly and logically with independent thought and critical thinking skills. During the learning journey, learners are able to communicate mathematically and express their findings using concrete math vocabulary.
We are committed to ensuring that all pupils achieve mastery in the key concepts of mathematics and are confident with all areas of number work.
English
At the Junior school we use English as a medium of communication. The students develop the ability to communicate clearly, accurately and effectively when speaking.
All areas of English; spellings, grammar, reading, writing, comprehension and spoken language are covered in interactive lessons. Teachers facilitate themed learning that integrates subjects, giving more meaning to the learners. Learners are given opportunities to explore, create and present tasks from different themes they have studied.
The students become curious, reflective and responsible working with information and ideas. Students are encouraged to be innovative, persuasive, fluent writers and presenters.
We ensure our learners have a well nurtured love for reading which is encouraged from the nursery level. They are encouraged to engage with different types of texts, understand their contexts, explore deeper meaning and become aware of different ideas and expressions. Students learn to interpret and evaluate texts. In the process they learn to value and appreciate different authors and writing styles.
Through the process we aim for our learners to have a better understanding of literature around them, making them understand their world better and ready to make a difference for tomorrow’s world.
Co-curricular
Co-curricular activities support the core educational journey of the learner. We at Jaffery, have created club activities according to the learner’s interests.
Clubs develop skills beyond the subject knowledge. We have clubs to support budding artists, emerging tailors, ardent readers and IT professors to name a few.
Club time always remains a firm favourite with the learners and at the same time helps the development of emotional and social growth.
At all times we aim to support enthusiastic, energetic, innovative individuals who are aiming to tap into their talents.
